From our humble beginnings in a small wooden chapel to our current stucco exterior, our church has grown and evolved alongside our community. The Rev. Peter Thaddeus accepted the call to serve as Rector of Grace Church in the summer of 2021.
A gift from the entire congregation, this silver cup was made by smelting down many small baby cups, piece of jewelry, and some silver plate, which were then molded into a cup. A jeweled ring, the engagement ring of Mrs. Carey McNelly, wife of Captain McNelly, a Texas Ranger, adorns the top of the stem. The jewels around the bottom of the cup and stem were at one time pieces worn by members of the parish.” This beautiful chalice has been used for every communion service in the church since.
Also, in 1892, a brass altar cross was given by the first Altar Guild, a women’s ministry in the church. The Cross stands on the altar to this day.
In 1936, Bishop Capers approved a resolution to build a parish hall on the grounds of Grace Church. The building was to be in memory of Mrs. Emma Proctor. The large, and airy, parish hall is used by the congregation and the community for various events and parish activities such as our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and for special Diocese and Parish Luncheons and Receptions. It is a great venue to host birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, etc. For information on renting Proctor Hall for your function or event, please contact the Church Office (361-275-3423) for more information.
The warmth of the wood interior of the building is enhanced by the beautiful stained glass windows that have been given over the years as memorials. The Chancel of the church has behind the altar three stained glass panels featuring bright glass and recognized symbols of the Christian Faith. The Baptistry at the rear of the building features a three paneled window celebrating Christ the Good Shepherd. The side windows of the Nave celebrate the following: St. John, the Evangelist St. Andrew, carrying a cross St. Peter, holding the keys to the Kingdom St. Francis, with his animals St. Luke, the Physician St. Matthew, writer of the Gospel St. Paul, preaching the Gospel St. Mark, holding the Gospel in his hands The Angel of the Annunciation Mary and the Christ Child
